Purpose
The purpose of social studies competition is to foster the intellectual growth of the participants and to provide a means of competition for those who excel in the areas social studies.
Participant Eligibility
Each team shall consist of four students from grades 5-8 in any combination.
Contest
Categories are U.S. History, World History, Bible History, Church History, World Geography, and Current Events.
Each round of the tournament will consist of 15 questions per team. The first time a question is asked it is worth two (2) points. If the first team receiving the question fails to answer correctly, the question is then offered to the other team for one (1) point. The second team will have an additional ten (10) seconds to come up with an answer. Each team will be offered an original question from each pair, even though they may have "stolen" a point on the other team's question. Each team will have first chance on 15 questions.
The team with the most points after each team has had first chance on 15 questions is the winner. In the event of a tie, additional questions will be asked of each team until one team has more points after an equal number of first chance questions.
A traveling trophy (brought back by the previous year's winner) will be awarded to the winner of the tournament.
